The second session of Solvers Next Gen at IES Paralaia focused on the development of soft skills and problem solving, cornerstones of the project’s pedagogical approach. In today’s world – shaped by constant digital stimulation and rapid social change – young people need more than academic knowledge. They need teamwork, problem-solving capacity, creativity, leadership and clear communication. These skills not only support their personal growth but also increase their ability to participate actively in democratic life.
During the session, we explored how these competencies emerge in real group dynamics. Students learned how to analyse a challenge, structure ideas, collaborate effectively and take initiative when needed. Through small exercises and guided reflection, they experienced first-hand the principles behind Challenge-Based Learning and Design Thinking, methodologies central to Solvers Next Gen.
Students were later asked to write short articles inspired by the topics discussed. This practical session encouraged them to communicate clearly, divide tasks within their teams and express their opinions in a structured and creative way, while further practicing their journalistic writing ability. Their contributions revealed a strong sense of curiosity, responsibility and growing confidence – traits that Solvers Next Gen aims to nurture throughout the entire project.
